Overview

The objective of the Salta Landfill Gas Capture Project was to reduce the GHG emissions from the sanitary landfill of the city of Salta, Argentina, by capturing the landfill gas generated at Salta’s municipal landfill and destroying the methane contained in the landfill gas in a flare. According to the Project Development Document, there was an expectation that the project would avoid the emission of 194,198 tCO2e to the atmosphere over a period of 21 years starting in 2008 and 72,008 tCO2e for the first crediting period from 2008 to 2014. The project activity was expected to greatly reduce the GHG emissions from the sanitary landfill of Salta, be awarded Certified Emission Reductions, and generate revenues through the sale of Certified Emission Reductions.
