Overview

The Hubei Eco-Farming Biogas Project, located in Enshi Prefecture, bundled 33,000 household-level activities which recovered methane from biogas digesters with pig manure as fermentation material and utilized the generated biogas to displace fossil fuel for cooking and heating. This was expected to reduce the methane emissions overall and pioneer biogas projects as a source of credits for future carbon markets. The project activity included the installation of biogas digesters of various reactor sized and supplementary renovations for 33,000 households.

Benefits

Community benefits: Biogas burners for household cooking and heating reduced indoor pollution and respiratory diseases. Improved manure management reduced water contamination. Biogas recovery helped diversify energy sources and reduce deforestation.
