Overview

Xiaogushan Hydropower Project (XHP) was focused on a run-of-river hydro located on the Heihe River in the Sunan Yugu Autonomous County of Zhangye City, Gansu province, China. The 102 MW project has provided additional capacity to the interconnected Gansu Power Grid, which is a part of the Northwest Power Network in China. It has supplied reliable power to the Zhang Ye prefecture, that has only 94.5MW capacity and is thus heavily dependent on daily import from the Gansu Power Grid. The XHP reduced 3,128,919 tCO2e of anthropogenic GHG emissions by avoiding operation of existing thermal power plant and future capacity expansion of fossil fuel-based generation by the regional Gansu Power Grid in Northwest China. The privately-owned hydropower plant sells electricity to the grid and supply reliable power to nearby villages.

Benefits

  • Reduction of anthropogenic GHG emissions by avoiding operation of existing thermal power plant
  • Future capacity expansion of fossil fuel-based generation by the regional Gansu Power Grid in Northwest China
