Overview
The La Esperanza Hydroelectric project provided clean, renewable electricity to the Honduran electric grid. The project was implemented in two phases, with separate power houses located one below the other and using the waters of the Intibuca River. The project had a contract to sell generated electricity to the National Utility, ENEE (Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica). The project’s total capacity was 14.6 MW, according to the nominal power of the installed generators.
Benefits
Community benefits: improved electricity service in the town of La Esperanza; employment for 148 people during construction; planting of 25,000 seedlings for reforestation.
