Overview

The project activity aimed to improve the thermal performance of the brick manufacturing units in selected clusters of the country, especially in the states Chattishgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Orissa, through introducing the Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) technology. This technology is both cleaner and more energy efficient than the clamp technology, which is commonly used by the brick manufacturers.

Benefits

The project promoted a technology that is superior in terms of resource conservation and reduced environmental pollution compared to the prevalent technologies. The environmental and social benefits of the project were further enhanced by a specific community benefit program that is implemented in order to meet the requirements of the Community Development Carbon Fund (CDCF) of the World Bank. The project thus contributed to sustainable development.
