Overview

The Olkaria II Geothermal Expansion was designed to generate electricity in the Kenyan grid by replacing fossil-fuel with renewable geothermal power, thus reducing GHG emissions. The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project increased the capacity of the existing Olkaria II Geothermal Power Plant by adding an additional steam turbine/generator of 35 MW. The project has been operational since May 2010, contributing about 276 GWh annually to greening the Kenyan grid.
