Overview

The objective of the Optimization of Kiambere Hydro Project was to upgrade the Kiambere Power Plant’s turbines with new ones consisting of efficient runners. The contracted additional capacity generated due to this upgrade, that was supplied to the Kenyan grid, was 20 MW. With this additional capacity, the total electricity supplied to the grid form the Kiambere power plant was expected to be 992.4 GWh per year and was expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing conventional energy generation in the Kenyan grid with clean hydropower. The Rehabilitation of the Power Plant has increased the plant’s generation capacity by 25 MW in the Kiambere Power Station.
