Overview

The Redevelopment of Tana Hydro Project comprised of the rehabilitation of a run-of-river hydropower generation plant, the Tana Power Station. The project used the existing water transmission system including penstocks through which water was fed to the old powerhouse. A new powerhouse was built on the project site to replace the existing one. The project installed a new powerhouse around 30 meters from the old one and utilized water from the Tana and Maragua rivers to generate electricity. The project resulted in GHG emission reductions by displacing fossil fuel-dominated electricity generation in the Kenyan grid with clean hydropower.
