Overview

The Nepal Biogas Program comprised of four project design documents, each of which included the installation of a varying number of biogas plants of various sizes in several parts of Nepal, to displace conventionally used fuel sources for cooking, such as fuel wood, kerosene, dung cakes and agricultural residues. Under the project, 60,000 small biogas plants have been installed in rural households in Nepal.

Benefits

Community benefits: Reduced kitchen smoke; reduced drudgery of women and children; better sanitation by connecting latrines to biogas plants; increased enrollment in schools; creation of 12,000 rural jobs; savings of 2,600 kilograms of firewood per household annually.
