Overview

The Community-Based Renewable Energy Development in the Northern Areas and Chitral (NAC) project invested in micro and mini hydropower projects (MHP) for the benefit of rural communities in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral province in Pakistan. By doing so, the project aimed to generate electricity from 90 sub-projects and reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. These sub-projects have supplied electricity through local mini-grids isolated from any regional and national grids existing in the region.

Benefits

Community benefits: Supply of electricity to remote rural community, most of which have no access, helping displace the use of fossil fuels and fuelwood.
