Overview

The project development objective of the Puck Wind Farm Project was reduction of emissions of carbon dioxide through building wind power generators to produce electricity that displaces grid generation (mostly coal-based). Specifically, the project has supported development of the international market mechanism for the new commodity known as "C02 Emission Reductions" (ER) developed in the framework of the Kyoto Protocol.

The project has functioned as an umbrella to facilitate the implementation of several sub-projects in Poland. The sub-projects have produced reductions of carbon dioxide (C02) emissions through improved energy efficiency and/or energy substitution (e.g. substituting district heat energy from renewable sources for district heating energy produced by thermal plants from fossil fuels).

Benefits

The PCF Umbrella Project has promoted the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change through the generation and sale of high-quality emission reductions. At the national level, the project has contributed to improved air quality through improved energy efficiency and/or by substituting clean energy production from renewable energy resources (e.g. use of geothermal energy, biomass, landfill methane, wind energy) for fossil-based energy generation systems, particularly highly polluting coal-fired plants.
